BOOK REPAIR

Do you have old books that are in need of repair? We may be able to be of service. Let us know what you have, accompanied by some digital photos of the damage and we will quote you a price. When repairing visible damage we try to use period material that closely matches the original if we have it in stock. Here are some terms that may be helpful to you:

RE-BACKING: Putting on a new backstrip or spine (leather or cloth).

RE-JOINTED: Repairing the spine and salvaging any material possible.

RE-BINDING: Adding new boards and spine to the text-block.

HINGE REPAIR: Internal - Generally done by adding new super (mesh material that holds the boards to the text-block). External - Inserting cloth underneath salvaged material to strengthen and cover up wear.

RE-SEWING: Reattaching the books signatures by sewing in new thread.

ARCHIVAL STORAGE: Clam shell boxes, slip-cases, etc.
